Our Story

Its an inspirational story about an Afghan father’s dedication to his six daugthers in the 1970s. A father who started a school so his daughters could get an education, because there was no school for girls in their city. The school helped many other girls in the community get an education.

In 1979 the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan. This event would have a profound impact on his life. The school was destroyed, the father and his family became refugees in Pakistan. His family grew larger, seven daugthers and five sons. In the late 1980s they immigrated to America. Many of the children went to school and earned degrees in varying fields.

In 2002 after the invasion of Afghanistan by America, this man returned, so he could help the community he left behind. With the help of a Canadian friend, Mike Frastacky, he spent the following years rebuilding the school which grew to 1000 students of girls and boys.

The Kator Foundation is a continuation of the work this Afghan father started. With a goal to provide access to education to every girl and boy in Afghanistan.
