Solar Panels for Home-Based Businesses in Afghanistan

In Baghlan province, the Kator Foundation has installed solar panels on the homes of families running small home-based businesses. The panels provide reliable electricity for sewing machines, lighting, charging phones, and powering the small tools these families use to earn their living — in a region where public electricity is unreliable or simply not available.

For a tailor working from home, light after sunset means hours of extra work and extra income. For a small shopkeeper, a charged phone means a customer can call to place an order. These small things add up. A household that can work after dark and stay connected to its customers is a household that can climb out of poverty on its own terms.

This project would not have been possible without our donors. Every panel, every battery, every hour of installation was made possible by people who believed that giving a family the power to work is one of the most direct forms of help there is.

We believe in giving people the tools to lift themselves. These solar panels will keep working for many years, quietly powering the work of families who now have one fewer obstacle between them and a better life.
