In Baghlan province, the Kator Foundation supports Community-Based Education classes that take place inside local homes. A trusted teacher in the village opens her home as a classroom, and children — especially girls — come to learn reading, writing, mathematics, and Quran in a setting that their families consider safe and appropriate.
For many children in rural Afghanistan, the nearest formal school is too far, too expensive, or simply not available to them at all. This is especially true for girls. Community-Based Education solves the problem by bringing the school to the child rather than expecting the child to reach the school. A class in a neighbor’s home is something a parent can say yes to.
This program is made possible entirely by the generosity of our donors. Your support pays the teachers, provides the books and supplies, and keeps these quiet little classrooms running — one home, one teacher, one group of children at a time.
We believe that every child has a right to learn. When the formal system cannot reach them, we go around it. These classes are small, but they are real, and they are changing what the next generation in Baghlan will be able to do.
